Discussion
In my hypothesis...
I was correct, I expected the egg to change colour, size and shape. And all of those things did change. In class we learned about what happens to a substance and a object and if you put them together. It will try to make equilibrium. And with a hypotonic solution that did happen. With a hypertonic solution it also wanted to create equilibrium, and so the water molecules go outside the egg, and it made the it deflate.
Discussion of your procedures, variables and controls...
We placed two different eggs in two different substances. Then, the eggs started to change. We made our own observations. We decided to use different coloured substances and solutions, that way the colour (Independent variable) would change. We used different types of solutions, (hypotonic and hypertonic) knowing that the different types would affect the mass of the eggs. (Dependant variable) And before we used the hypertonic solutions and hypotonic solutions we put both eggs in vinegar for the same amount of time. (Controlled variable)
Discussion of results...
Before we put the eggs in the new substances egg one was 58.46G and egg two was 54.2 G. After the new substances egg one was 68.8 G and egg two was 32.6 G. This shows that egg one has expanded and gained weight from the water it took it. But, egg two has deflated therefore it lost weight. The beakers before the full 48 hours had taken place had 150 mL of substance inside of them. Beaker one after the 48 hours had 135 mL of substance inside and beaker two had
reflection on experimentation
Yes, this experiment was valid and it was successful. My hypothesis was correct , and the lab was very interesting. If i had to change anything it would be to use a different object rather than eggs. As they make a mess and have a foul odour. There were no problems with the lab and it all went very well.
