Phytoplankton, the type of microscopic algae that is virtually killing some parts of the Baltic sea. "When it rains, farm fertilizers are washed into the sea. Sewage-treatment facilities also discharge waste into the Baltic ecosystem." This is what caused the rapid growth of this type of algaeThis type of algae has always been in the Baltic sea, but, just recently it has exploded into massive amounts. The algae sucks up oxygen and chokes the aquatic life. This affects more than the aquatic life, such as the things that rely on it for their food source. For example: Birds of prey or humans. The things that live around the Baltic sea will either have to adapt to not having the sea to gather food, or they will re locate to a new place where there is a sustainable food source.

How we could fix the problem:
I think the way we could fix this problem is to stop the drainage of human waste into that sea, also, There should be a law placed where there is no fishing allowed until the sea has recovered from this phenomenon. There are many ways that we could help, but, these are just some examples. There will be no short-cuts,  It will take the sea a couple months if not years until its fully recovered. And until then we have to be very careful of what goes into the Baltic sea.
